Functional Medicine looks at the body through an entirely different filter to conventional medicine. It respects that the body is an intelligent, self- regulating system and it is our role as practitioners to help the client create resiliency and vitality rather than merely suppress symptoms. Functional medicine examines interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease. While a massive spectrum of dysfunction can occur masquerading as many different conditions and ailments many of these can be simplified to 5 main imbalances; deficiency, toxicity, microbes, stress and allergens.

In my practice, I like to break it down to 2 simple questions

  1. Is there something bothering this person’s system that needs to be removed?
  2. Is there something beneficial missing from this person’s system that needs to be added in?
